Private rental sector
Investors remain confident

Landlords are generally upbeat about the long-term outlook of the buy-to-let sector, a new study has revealed. New landlords expect their investment property portfolios to double over the next five years, rising from an average of 1.8 properties to 4 properties in 5 years' time, according to Mortgage Trust.

This is buoyed by strong tenant demand and long-term growth in the private rental sector being underpinned by students and migrants who want high-quality, affordable housing over a short-term period.

The study also shows that the proportion of student and migrant tenants has more than doubled since January and that the majority of small scale investors remain confident that they will be able to add significantly to their portfolios over the short and medium term.
